Getting to know your professors is a crucial tool for getting through the semester. It seems frightening, I am well aware, but in the long run it pays off. Our professors are here to help us in any way they can, and the better they know their students, and the better you get to know them, the easier it will be to get the help needed. It would be great if , as a student, we could get through our semester without a hitch, but we have responsibilities and other classes that collide with each other. Sometimes asking for an extension is needed and if you have an establish mentor/mentee relationship with your professor this can be accomplished easily with little to no fallout. The professors all have scheduled office hours, these are set aside specifically for their students, and many of the professors here at Salem State maintain an open door policy for their students. Don’t be afraid to ask for help, the professors are all willing and available to offer any help they can. This does not mean that you can go to them the day before an assignment is due and ask for an extension, no, go to them with time a few days or even a week before and explain to them what is going on in your life, they will listen and they will respond kindly to your needs.
