So, as some of you may or may not be aware, registration for Freshman students is on Friday, November 6th at 7a.m. sharp! Before you register for classes however, you must meet with your academic adviser. Advising starts on October 19th! However, the date on which you register is based on the number of credits you currently have. That being said, if you are a First Year student who already has some college credit, you may be able to register a day earlier as a Sophomore. Double check with your adviser to see if this is something that applies to you. You may be asking: “wait, how do I find out who my academic adviser is!?” To find who your adviser is log on to your Navigator account, click on ‘My Advisers’ under the ‘Quick Links’ tab on the far left side of the webpage.
Now that you know who your adviser is you should check to see if there are any holds on your account. Holds can be a result of financial or academic problems and will result in you not being able to register for classes. To check for a hold on your account: log into Navigator and click on ‘View My Holds’ under the ‘Quick Links’ tab. If it says you have no holds, you’re all set! If there is a hold on your account you need to contact that specific office to resolve the problem. For example, if you have a financial hold, you would need to contact the Bursar’s office (located in the Student Navigation center on the 2nd floor of the Bertolon building).
In order to make an advising appointment with your adviser, you can do one of two things. Firstly, you can go to their office and sign up for an advising slot that works best for you. Most advisers have a sheet on the door of their office that you can fill out with your name and a time to meet. As a second option (if they don’t have a sheet on their door), you can send your adviser an email to coordinate a time to meet that works best for the both of you. When you do meet with your adviser, it is very important that you get the 5-digit pin number from them. Make sure to keep this number in a safe place as you will need it to register for classes.
Good luck with advising, registration and the rest of your academic year! 🙂
Here’s to your success,
First Year Mentor, Patrick
