Networking is one of the most important things that you can do when you are in university life. Life is all about the connections that you make and the people that you know. Networking can be done in person or even online. I am here to talk about how it’s never too early to start networking with people. In this modern day of technology, we can now network professionally through a social media site called Linked In.
Linked In is a website where you have a profile that essentially endorses you as a potential candidate in your desired field. Within your profile you can display a picture of yourself and then there is other information that follows. On your profile page you can list on past and present work experiences, past and present education, activities that you’re involved in such as clubs/organizations, any volunteering that you have done, skills you have and accomplishments of yours such as awards/honors. This is a way to get yourself out there and advertise yourself to future employers of your interested field.
Linked in is really user friendly. You just need a valid email to sign up and that’s perfect because students can use their SSU email to begin their networking. With this website you can begin to make connections with people who are inside and outside of the field. Once you have an account set up and your profile has been built up a little you can begin to look at suggested jobs, possible internships and even who has viewed your profile. This is a great stepping stone to getting yourself out into the field by just taking some time at your computer.
I hope that you will consider embarking on this journey into networking.
