Vanessa is a sophomore at Salem State University studying Political Science and Philosophy! She is very involved on campus through on campus jobs and clubs. Over the summer she was an orientation leader for the first year students. She now works in the FYE Office as a Mentor, on top of being the secretary of the Political Science Academy. Right now she is also working on being inducted as a member of the National Society of Leadership and Success!
Stella is currently a Social Work major with a minor in Political Science as a senior at Salem State. This will be her fourth year working in the First Year Experience office and she is so excited to work with a new group of students. Stella also works for the Salem State Admissions office and has been there for a little under a year. With this experience Stella wants to pursue her masters in Higher Education in Student Affairs. When Stella is not working or in class, her time is occupied by being the President of the Gender and Sexuality Alliance on campus. Social Justice is her passion and ensuring Salem State is inclusive and welcoming to all is her goal. If you ever need help getting involved or with time management, Stella is your gal. Anthony is currently a Communications Major with a concentration in Public Relations and minor in Psychology. This is his first year as a first year mentor. He also serves as a RA on campus. He is involved in many organizations around campus such as UAT, MSA, and LASO. He believes to be successful your first year you have to put yourself out there, say hi, and familiarize yourself with your surroundings. Anthony loves to laugh, have fun, and enjoy life as it comes. He believes in work hard, play hard!
Shelbie is a senior Psychology major. She is in the Commonwealth Honors Program as well as the sorority Theta Phi Alpha. She works at Admissions as an Ambassador (tour guide!). She really loves dogs, and GA Jordan tried to make her narrow down her favorite, but she just can’t do it. All dogs are perfect. She can’t wait to work with you!
Shannon is currently a sophomore and is studying History as a major and Psychology as a minor. This is her second year within the FYE office; last year she worked as one of the Office Assistants. She is very excited for the new opportunities and memories that will come with being a First Year Mentor. Shannon is also looking forward to studying abroad in Dublin, Ireland for her Fall 2018 semester at Trinity College. In her spare time she loves to watch her many TV shows, listen to music, and take long walks around both the campus and downtown Salem.
Jenna is in her second year as a first year mentor! She is a junior with a criminal justice major and a social work minor. She hopes to be a Juvenile Probation Officer, but as long as she is in a career that helps people, she will be happy. She is from Cape Cod, Massachusetts, home of all things nautical. She looks forward to helping first year and transfer students have an awesome first year at Salem State! You can see her in the FYE Office on Mondays from 2:30PM-5:30PM and Tuesdays from 3:00PM-6:00PM.
Kelly is in her super senior year at Salem State. She is a dual major in Technical Theatre and History. This is her fourth year working as a mentor in FYE! Kelly is in the Commonwealth Honors Program and is active in theatre department productions. Kelly believes that asking lots of questions will help lead you to success in your first year at SSU! One of Kelly’s favorite things to do is go to Taco Tuesday at Howling Wolf with friends!
First Year Mentor Ashley is a commuter student here at SSU and is in her Junior year. Ashley is Elementary Education and American Studies majors and currently enrolled in the 4+1 program for education. During her first year, she was inducted into Alpha Lambda Delta, a campus honor society for first-years. Ashley’s interests include painting, reading, makeup, and Netflix.
First Year Mentor, Danee’ Allen, is from New Haven, CT. She is a senior in the 4+1 Program, majoring in criminal justice and with a minor in psychology. She has aspirations to become a Juvenile Justice and advocate for youth offenders in urban communities. Danee’ is also a member of several organizations such as Alpha Lambda Delta National Honor Society, Alpha Phi Sigma National Criminal Justice Honor Society, Pre-Law Society, First Year Mentor, an Orientation Leader and president of the Criminal Justice Academy. She enjoys long days on the beach, hiking, caring for children and making memories with her friends and family. Danee’ also loves being a leader to her peers and helping them in any way she can.
Diana “Dee” Barbosa
Dee is a sophomore majoring in Accounting. She is involved with the National Society Leadership and Success, works as desk receptionist at Atlantic Hall, is involved with S.T.E.P, and Bottomline. She joined the FYE office in order to be more involved on campus and to help first-years transition smoothly. She will be in the office Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays.
Caitlyn is a sophomore who is majoring in Social Work. She is from Fairhaven, Massachusetts which is a small town in south eastern mass. Other than being a First Year Mentor she was also an Orientation Leader and a Summer Conference Assistant over the summer. She loves Sloths, Pentatonix and the color blue.
Dara is a junior Social Work major with a double minor in Psychology and Healthcare Studies. Dara has worked in the FYE office for three years; one as an office assistant and two as a mentor. She is also a member of the Salem State women’s ice hockey team! Dara is an out-of-state student and would like to tell students to never be afraid to be you because this is the place to do so. There are a number of resources on campus and faculty members that are so supportive and ready to help you and your future!
Angelina is an Honors student in her fourth year at SSU currently completing her two degrees in both Spanish and Dance. She is an avid participant in the Dance program as a member of Salem Dance Ensemble and as a Dance Program Associate. As President of the student organization Repertory Dance Theatre, she loves to organize and coordinate events with the other Executive Board members. Above all she is, super excited for her third year as a First Year Mentor in the First Year Experience office and is ready to meet and help eager First Years with questions or confusions.
AnnMarie is a senior at Salem State University. She is a psychology major with a minor in healthcare studies. AnnMarie has worked in the FYE office for three years as an office assistant. This is her first year as a mentor. AnnMarie is a member of Psi Chi Honors Society and is currently working to create a UNICEF club on campus. She has a passion for photography and loves to travel to capture photos.
